When Was The Internet Developed
The internet has a long history spanning over several decades. Many interesting events happened during its evolution and together they made a revolutionary technology which has now become a focal point of the communication world. But when was the internet developed? It’s hard to say as the internet developed gradually during many years and each year took the technology to a whole new level. Here’s a brief account of these events:
The ARPANET
ARPANET was the first network which used the basic concept behind the formation of internet – packet switching. ARPANET was the precursor to the internet and initially consisted of four computers at four different institutes. These computers were inter-connected by using 56kbps transmission lines. The ARPANET grew wildly over the years. Another network named NSFNET was also formed by the US National Science Foundation. These networks and many other networks soon spanned over entire US.
TCP/IP Protocol
When these networks were tried to connect with each other problems were raised. These networks had differences due to which they could not be connected with each other. ARPA hired Vint Cerf to find a solution for this problem. He worked on the problem along with Bob Kahn and together they invented the TCP/IP protocol which connected these networks by hiding their differences. The term internet was first used in the reports published by Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn which described TCP/IP a protocol for ‘internetworking’. With the arrival of TCP/IP the internet took birth. TCP/IP was invented in 1974. So, one may consider this the year of internet’s development. Other events which led to the progress of internet include:
The birth of WWW
In 1994, Tim Burners-Lee wrote a code to view a hypertext file on the internet and called this software the web browser WorldWideWeb. With the arrival of WorldWideWeb anyone who had some knowledge of hyoertext could share his information on the internet. The WorldWideWeb made the internet universal.
Creating a TCP/IP Server in C
Netcat is a featured networking utility which reads and writes data across network connections, using the TCP/IP protocol.

The TCP/IP protocol is the basic function used by computers to communicate with outside networks. First adopted in 1983, the TCP/IP system is widely credited with enabling the creation of the internet as we know it.
