Dungeons and Dragons is the first-of-its-kind role-play game based upon a fantasy tale in which the players embark upon adventures in an imaginary world. Dungeons and Dragons was designed by Gary Gygax, and Dave Arneson and was first published by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc.

Dungeons and Dragons – A pioneer in the role-play gaming industry

Dungeons and Dragons is known as the best selling and most popular game in the role-play gaming genre.  An estimate of 20 million people has played the game and almost 1 billion US dollars have been spent on the Dungeons and Dragons branded products.  The game has experienced serious controversies as well when some elements related the game to Satanism and evil forces.

Dungeons and Dragons Online
The online version of Dungeons and Dragons was released by Turbine on February 28, 2008. It was released by Atari. It was released in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, the publishers of paper version of the Dungeon and Dragon.  The game is a multiplayer, online role-play game. Dungeons and Dragons have won the Best Multiplayer Game Award, the Most Anticipated Game Award, and several other awards.

Internet Access is compulsory to play the game. Eight modules of the games have been released till date and more recently the Turbine, Inc. has announced that the game can be played free on the internet from its home page.  Turbine has released the Free-to-play (F2p) version of the game and can be played online from their web page. Turbine says that the players can now thrash through the dark dungeaons making their way towards the success without spending a single penny. The online version has been released and is avaialbe as free-to-play on www.ddo.com

Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition Announced
Integration with digital distribution, and the online gaming community, including online "gaming tables" to bring people together to play across the Internet * Trying to see if they can’t buy into the whole MMORPG "monthly fee" thing. All noble goals, to be sure. …. While I also resent the implications of a "monthly fee to play D&D" — I think that if they handle the online subscription component of the game properly, this could be the biggest win of the upgrade.
