A timeline is a list of important dates and key events linking to the major historical actions with brief description of each event.

Year 1957
Soviet Union beat US in the space war by launching first artificial satellite in the space.US President was applauded by this success so he immediately announced the formation of ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency).
Year 1965
Email – the killer application of internet was started. Although its actual history is unknown, it was started in 1965 as way of communication between multiple time-sharing mainframe computers.
Year 1969
The first ARPANET was developed by connecting four computers at four different universities with 56kbps transmission lines. ARPANET was the predecessor to internet. ARPANET also made significant contribution in the evolution of email system.
1970s
Internet Service Providers were commercialized and internet was made accessible by even home computers through dial-up internet connections.
Year 1974
Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn developed TCP/IP the first internet protocol which made possible to interconnect various networks by hiding their differences. TCP/IP was then declared the official protocol of internet. TCP/IP made possible the emergence of internet –the network of networks.
Year 1983
The University of Wisconsin invented the domain Name System (DNS). This system replaced the IP addresses with unique domain names. Prior to the invention of this system, the users used IP addresses to reach internet.
Year 1992
Many developments were made. ‘Internet Society’ was chartered and another major invention came into being – The WorldWideWeb. Cern created the WWW and internet was completely revolutionized.
WWW made internet access universal and internet started growing larger and larger.
Year 1994
First cyber bank was founded and more interestingly, PizzaHut started taking online orders for Pizza delivery in U.S.
The Internet Timeline of China (2008)
According to the statistics of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), by December 31, 2007, the number of Internet users in China has reached up to 210 million, while the number of the broadband Internet users has reached.
