Yes, the internet is without any doubt the biggest invention of the human history. It has turned the whole world into a connected village. Billions of people are exchanging information every hour around the world with Internet. We have more access to knowledge now. We can understand the cultures, societies, and the religions of the world in a much better way. Today, nations and countries are much more connected. But what is the name behind this greatest invention of the human history? Who really invented this technology? Which factors led to the invention of Internet? We have found out the answers for you.

Why was the Internet needed?
It was when the Cold War was at its height, the U.S. Department of Defense felt the need of a military network which could survive even the worst conditions of war. Soon, a separate research organization, ARPA, was formed which focused on finding a solution for a better and more reliable military communication network.

ARPA and the First Design of Subnet (mini internet)
ARPA collected the researchers and graduate students who were involved in research at one platform and asked them to find a solution for a better command-and-control network which could be trusted even in the worst scenarios. One of the scientists Wesley Clark suggested a local network of multiple small computers to connect together with transmission lines. ARPA bought his idea and implemented a subnet which was later named ARPANET. ARPANET was one of the very first forms of the internet.

But the main concept behind the functionality of internet is a packet-switched network. This concept was presented by Paul Baran. He presented his idea of a packet-switched network when ARPA was not even founded. So, the very first inventor of the internet was Paul Baran. Since Mr. Wesley presented the idea which was used in the very first practical form of internet, so his name cannot be ignored.
