With the emergence of commercial recording studios the music industry turned into a market of money where everyone focused on making big money instead of creating quality music. Big labels, commercialized albums, and sold artists – it seemed that no one is working for music but for money and fame only. But thanks to the independent music - or a better way to call it – indie music, which created a whole new world for those creative souls who want to dedicate their energies and their talents to music only, and the result – well, excellent music and a whole new genre!

The History of Indie Music
The history of indie music is as old as post-world wars periods when first independent record label was established in United Kingdom under the label name Sun Records.

Then came the Punk Rock era which saw indie music getting revolutionized, and the first ever UK Independent Music chart appeared on the music scene. All this happened as early as 1980s. The indie music industry was re organized and a better distribution of indie music got started.

The indie music artists and fans should lend extreme gratitude to the technology which made easy access to the indie music more convenient. The advent of internet and innovation in this technology was a blessing for the fans and the artists alike. As the artists could distribute their music to a wider audience while the fans got access to the latest creations with extreme ease. The technology brought the indie music lover closer. With the internet, new artist got opportunities to reach the world and we witnessed this when Jill Sobule made $ 90,000 from the online release of her album ‘California Years’.

Indie music genre produced some of the finest musicians since the time of its origin. The industry grew wildly over the time and today the indie music industry is producing numerous artists regularly. The best indie music which caught the attention of the music lovers originated in the era of 1980s in Washington D.C. the artists of that era produced some noticeably beautiful music and brought the indie music albums to mainstream music. Some of the names include Minor Threat, Bad Brains, X, Black Religion, and the Descendents.
